A magnificent love token from the early 19th century!

The late 18th century saw a rise in romantic (or amatory) jewelry. These love talismans were a favored gift for men and women alike; the most common design for these decorative pieces were brooches. They often featured woven or plaited hair, and were decorated sweetly with miniature natural seed pearls.

Crafted circa 1790 in a beautiful 14 carat gold, this Georgian Memorial ring is a pinnacle example of such amatory jewelry. The design is impeccable, featuring stunning miniature natural seed pearls halo’ing a glass-topped enclosure. The glass is inlaid with a beautiful tuft of woven hair; and on the surface of the glass is a monogram painted in stark white relief.

This piece is a excellent conversion piece, originating as a brooch. The band is delicate, creating a sweet silhouette. As it is a memorial piece, there is strong sentimental value, especially with the intimate inclusion of the hair lock. A wonderful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
