After 1870, when the South African mines opened, large diamonds became available for use in rings. Rings from the Late Victorian period are defined in a large part by their use of diamonds, cluster and marquise boat shapes, use of pearls, and light airy styles which were an inspiration for rings made in the upcoming Edwardian period.
Victorian engagement rings largely changed with the diamond rush- and diamonds of substantial size were not only used in engagement jewels (that tradition was, in fact, solidified by the DeBeers marketing campaign in the 1940's) but more commonly, in dinner + evening jewels. This gorgeous ring is one such excellent example of a night time ring, boasting a boxy navette-like shape, in a classic East Lake Cigar Band setting, this beauty is circa 1870 with her stacked pearls and delicate composure. Perfect for any day or night look, this is a piece that stands out and sparkles in any light.
