If you have been thinking the only thing better than a gold collar is a gold and diamond collar, this mid 1980's art piece is for you. A massive, 94.34g example in delicious yellow and white 18ct, this beauty has 230 VVSI 1-2 quality diamonds of 16.78cts. To me, it is reminiscent in stylistic design of the diamond and sapphire collar famously (and controversially) gifted to Princess Diana of Wales by the Sultan of Oman during the royal couple's tour of the middle east in 1986 (please see the wonderful article on this topic by The Court Jeweler.)The "turn over" or central crescent shape is just the same as the one on this mis a jour collar, and I imagine the two were produced simultaneously.
The mis-a-jour settings of the diamonds is meant to allow a maximum amount of light to pass through the diamonds in a more illuminating way than a regular pave, letting the stones glow from within!
