A deliciously unique and whimsical statement piece!
Words almost can’t describe how utterly gorgeous this 19th century opal and diamond triangle pendant is. Possibly Austrian in origin, this pendant was crafted circa 1870-1890 in a delightful 18 carat gold.
The construction of this piece is truly unique. Rather than a typical pendant style, the 18 carat gold has been fashioned into a delicate but eye-catching pyramid shape. The gold further scissors along the interior of the pyramid shape to create several smaller triangle and rhombus shapes. Along these sections and at the three corners of the pyramid frame sit delicate miniature diamonds, which glint sweetly in the light like the tiniest of stars.
The stars of the show however, are of course these stunning iridescent opal stones. Varying slightly in size, the stones are each delicately hung from the top of a diamond studded corner, creating a silhouette that is dreamy, mystical, and reminiscent of starlight itself!
This is one of those jewels that is so far ahead of its design moment, that it foreshadows a massively important aesthetic shift. This piece is mostly likely a jewel from the Aesthetic Movement, with the pyramid shape appearing specifically in the Art Deco genre.
This outstanding opal pyramid possesses an outrageous synergy with the cultural zeitgeist of the time. A truly magnificent addition to any antique jewelry collection!
