Opulence personified!
Crafted circa 1870 in 18 carat gold, this red foiled crystal brooch is a stunner! Not only is this piece massive, but it is a striking archaeological revival piece. One can see the Hellenistic , Etruscan, and Egyptian influences in the construction: a luminous pearl star is encased in the rich vivid canvas of a cherry red foiled crystal.
The cool thing about the stone is that it itself is not red - but merely foiled to create that iconic, cherry color! Surrounding the foil are a halo of pearls, which are themselves haloed by gold embellished in a Greek Key motif.
Flip to the reverse to see a delightful surprise: a glass enclosed locket containing a wisp of hair. How curious!
This brooch is simply breathtaking – as well as massive – making it an eye-catching statement piece no matter how you choose to wear it!
A wonderful piece for the art historian and antique jewelry connoisseur alike!
