Fire Opal & Diamond Drop Earrings | 5.10ct Opals 4.30ct Diamonds | 18ct Gold | ALPA Backs | c.1980s
Two smoldering fire opals drop from snaking diamond suspension chains, thrown further into shimmer by diamond halos, to create what seem at first like costume showgirl earrings of the Bob Mackie era. But to realise that all the materials are what stage costume attempts to emulate — that is all the more thrilling. These would make a wonderful addition to the wardrobe of the girl who loves tangerine, or perhaps a different take on an opal birthstone she's never met before. Great care was taken here to show the green crackling undertone of these opals in the photos!
The ALPA backs are signed and entirely original: developed by Roland Georges Krahenbuhl in the 1980s, the notched post and spring-loaded locking mechanism became the standard for the finest French jewellery houses — it is a pleasure to see it present on these. The French eagle hallmark is present on the earring tops. These are earrings built to be worn and enjoyed, and the security of the ALPA system allows the wearer to dance all night.
