A finely donepetite Painnier pendant of the second quarter of the (1825-1850) 19th century, designed as a delicate basket of emerald blossoms crowned by a bow-form bale. The composition reflects the Romantic era’s fascination with naturalistic motifs, rendered here with notable intricacy and lightness of touch.
Executed in gold and platinum the piece makes use of contrasting metals to highlight the basket weave on the main body of the pendant. Platinum was not, in fact, used for the first time in the deco period; while more challenging to work with, platinum (alloyed with gold and silver) does show up in the 19th century many times, such as the look of “tri color gold” that was popular in the romantic period and later in the aesthetic era. A rare and poetic survivor from the Romantic period moment.
