The Victorians May have been repressed, but they were most certainly a cheeky batch. This early Victorian Guache painting of Cupid with his torch, wreath, and anatomical accuracy, I’d venture to say, is a product of this satirical take on love and its messenger, feeding the novelty market that flourished in the 19th c. This exceptional not-so-miniature depicts a very naughty Cupid, keep to best the viewer with his torch of passion, and marriage wreath. Set with a glass top, and gilded silver frame, this example would be wonderful worn round the neck on a chain!
