This ring features a bezel-set boulder opal in matrix and features the most magical blue-green hue with vibrant flashes of violet and orange. The term matrix opal is commonly used where the opal is intimately diffused as infillings of pores or holes between grains of the host rock in which it was formed. Boulder matrix opal is found in Queensland and can be distinguished by the ironstone host rock.
I am particularly fond of this extremely large scale boulder opal as the matrix is no longer present, but only the blue reverse of the opal is visible.
Set in 14 karat yellow gold with a distinctly retro vibe, this deep blue green opal has a fathomless, almost aquatic depth, exhibiting multicolored sparks of pink, yellow, cobalt and green, all characteristics of the Freeform Kite pattern. Also evident within the stone is a natural canyon-like formation or fissure. This is not a crack from being damaged, but rather an organic occurrence produced in the earth as the stone was being developed. Gaze at this magical ring long enough, and it will have you wanting to take the plunge right into its mysterious, primordial canyon!
