During part of the Victorian period, from about 1860-1880, mourning jewelry was the height of fashion and black was a stylish color. Made of jet, vulcanite, bog oak, and even black enamel, each carried special meaning as a memento of a loved one.
An ode to the bold simplicity of the strong, stark 1860s aesthetic, this locket will be a beloved mainstay in any collection. Of massive scale at 2.75” length with a black velvetine interior, she satisfies all of our Victorian Gothic curiosities. In simple coin silver, she has some battle scars but remains utterly remarkable as an examination of the craftspersonship of this period.
