Crescent brooches held particular symbolic significance in 19th-century France, where they were traditionally presented by the groom’s family as a wedding gift, intended for the bride’s lune de miel — the origin of the term “honeymoon.” The crescent, associated with the moon, femininity, and renewal, became a favored motif during the reign of Napoleon III, when historic symbolism and sentimental jewelry flourished.
This refined example is crafted in 18ct yellow gold and set with an abundant arrangement of diamonds, including round, cushion-cut, and rose-cut stones. The diamonds total an estimated approximately 1.90 carats, calculated conservatively from measured stones and rose cuts. The crescent form is substantial yet elegantly proportioned, offering both visual impact and historical resonance.
A romantic jewel with serious presence — equal parts sentiment, sparkle, and Second Empire sophistication.
