A rare, mid 19th century brooch with two doves in flight, set in a geometric gold filled frame. An American example, the elongated rectangular shape has a certain sleekness in its sparse geometry. The blushing breasts of the doves seem to meet as they flutter in a black tesserae'd ground, underscoring a certain lightness in their meeting, as symbols of true love, eternal pairing, and peace.
