A rare and whimsical treasure from the height of the Victorian era!
This 19th century Egyptian Revival Scarab Bar Brooch is an absolute eye-catcher. Crafted circa 1870’s in a delightful 22 carat gold, this adornment was likely an export from Egypt, lending to its revivalist design. The details are impeccable: just look at that high carat gold and exquisite wire wrapping!
The gold bar features a delicate braided pattern, that terminates into a halo across the pièce de resistance: a gorgeous scarab crafted out of blue washed Steatite. The resulting silhouette is mystical, romantic, and timeless in its beauty – as it can be paired casually as a statement piece, or as part of a fanciful ensemble.
This wonderful bar brooch is a classic example of how Archaeological finds were presented as wearable specimens in the late 19th century. One of our areas of expertise here at The Curio is in purveying jewelry from the Egyptian Revival and Archaeological Revival moments. And this brooch is one of the cleanest examples we’ve had from the 1870’s.
A museum quality addition to any collection, perfect for the art historian and antique jewelry lover alike!
