A phenomenal pair of pearl or weddingwork earrings circa 1830s, with foiled topaz stones in an antique earring box! Pearls have garnered affection for centuries; with the greeks believing them to be the tears of Aphrodite, fallen into the sea. These earrings can perhaps then be seen a culmination of all her hopeful wishes for lovers as she gazed upon us from above, a lovely sentiment to adorn yourself with on your wedding day.
Designed in an almost wreath-like formation, each pearl has been fastened to the mother of pearl backing using horsehair which has remained untouched and in perfect condition since the pair were made. With 18ct ear wires and fine details including four glowing foiled topaz, they are incredible, museum worthy earrings.
