Here comes the bride (with her gorgeous bangles)! 

Wedding bangles have a long history - one would be presented with the first one on the day of engagement, and the second one on the day of marriage! Inscribed for a beautiful union, this pair carries lots of symbolism. Scrolling ivy leaves rendered in black enamel extend on the front and back sides of these gorgeous bangles--four renderings of the leaves total, so beautiful and rare to find. The ivy leaves were known to celebrate life, and in some instances, having a religious undertone of immortality-- the bond of love in another life after the one we enjoy here on earth.

Both bangles have been inscribed, for the same date, in fact- reading:

I imagine they were gifted in tandem with the wedding, the Dinna Forget bangle by the groom perhaps, the other from a loving family member. I adore that only one has the additional Dinna Forget inscription, so sentimental, indeed!

Age/Origin: c. 1882, American

Marks: 5, on each clasp tongue, to indicate the size! You can, in fact, check your american bangles with this size marker and learn your "victorian size" with this number, it is much like a shoe size. 

Measurements: Perfect for a wrist 6” and smaller

Weight: 27g of 14ct gold 

Condition: Excellent. Near to mint condition on this outstanding duo of rare aesthetic movement bangles- minor enamel loss as expected.
