A sumptuous 15ct gold brooch in the Rococo Revival taste, circa mid-19th century. The stylized knot form is lushly studded with three sizable pink topaz jewels, inset into a chased centre; luminous and theatrical, their color heightened by the foil backings, so beloved in Georgian and early Victorian jewels. To add delight to delectation, an even larger FOURTH foiled pink topaz swings from the bottom of the brooch in jovial gaiety.
In true Victorian sentiment, the reverse conceals a locket compartment, complete with woven hairwork preserved under glass. Whether worn at the throat on a ribbon or fastened to a lapel, it is a jewel that bridges the ornamental exuberance of the Rococo with the intimacy of Victorian memory-keeping.
