The floral cruciform is one of the most popular jewelry motifs of English jewels of the 19th century. With varied silhouettes, and swirling shapes, I often curate for this form because I find its simplistic presence a pleasing way to view the craftspersonship of 19th century jewelery, especially of English origin.
This ring does not disappoint with five cross-set opals that seem to hover above their settings, as is the opaline way when first observed. Lively, colorful opals, they are light and contrast sharply with their ruby playmates, who form an inverted X around the central cross, each glinting knowlingly from their subtle, cushion cut settings. Cannetile work, and a generous swooping shoulder on each side finishes the design, as an open locket back indicates the secrets that once were. A phenomenal ring, with slightly pink 15k gold; this will be a winner in any collection.
