A rare Art Nouveau brooch of a goddess studded with bezel set diamonds, depicted with stands of rich beads (each larger than her lips!) and foliate scrolls dripping from her crown. An original late 19th-early 20th century brooch, the depicted figure might have originally been intended to represent The Queen of Sheba, as she was depicted by artists like Sir Edward John Poynter (1839-1919) in 1890, during her visit to King Solomon. The underlying interest in "exotic" and "orientalist" traditions was gathering momentum moving into the Art Nouveau, experiencing a solid break from the naturalism that had dominated the first half of the 19th century in England and France. See the reference painting attached!
