The jewelry designers of the Art Deco period embraced modernism and the advances in technological innovation and machinery. A new genre of design was born – bold, geometric shapes with clean lines and symmetry, providing a more industrial feel. Boldly colored gemstones were used to form designs and patterns, with contrasting colors often used in combination.

Platinum, white gold, and sterling silver were the favored metals used to create Art Deco rings, which matched the exuberance and glamour of those years. This choice of metals gave the rings a cool, modern sheen that captured the opulence and elegance which characterized the era. 

An early Art Deco example, this ring is in platinum and boasts .55 cts of center diamonds hugged by a frame of .35cts of sapphires. Sapphire, also the September birthstone, is a gemstone associated with royalty and is believed to attract abundance, blessings, and gifts.
