A magnificence of coral, in beautiful relief!
Words almost fail to adequately describe the magnificence of this Victorian Demi Parure set! An Italian treasure hailing from circa 1860, the stars of the show these fabulous Sicilian Coral jewels; a pair of darling earrings and a large center brooch.
What makes this demi parure stand out from others we’ve come across is the sheer amount of detail in each piece; the artistic flourishes are so finely and masterfully rendered! At the bottom of the earrings are amphorae, and on top are these darling little shells with pearls in the center – a strong emblem of fertility.
On the central brooch are two birds: one more qual like in appearance, and the other reminiscent of a swan or dove. The beading atop the garland serves as a wonderful frame for the portrait in the center. Though we don’t know who exactly the muse of this piece is, the laurel wreath crown atop her head hints to a Divine personage; perhaps Hera? Or even more sentimental, this woman may have been the original owner of this piece!
Based on the impeccable craftwork and beautiful detail, this demi parure may have been an immaculate wedding present for a lucky paramour. Today, it would make a fine treasure for any discerning collector!
