Finding necklaces in mint condition from the 19th century is becoming harder and harder; rare pieces from the 1860's in highly pink gold are one of my favorites to uncover. I've only had one other rosary style necklace like this, it was from the Austinian period, and I'm particularly pleased with this example, I believe it is English for American import (hence the K12 import hallmark.) It wears so lightly and beautifully!
With 32 elements total, plus a delicately flared, hand etched cross, this very fine necklace would have been worn to church on Sundays and for any and all religious moments in a young woman’s life. With a 19” wearing length, I imagine this necklace would have been the perfect candidate for a movie or film usage as it is all original to the period.
